Overview
FinTech refers to disruptive financial sector developments that use technology to enable new business models (online and mobile device-based). Independent FinTech companies can help disintermediate, develop and supply new products and services, expand access and inclusivity, cut costs, and generate and address privacy, regulatory, and law-enforcement issues. FinTech also refers to the increasingly technological approaches that incumbents and entrepreneurial ventures take to the primary financial intermediation functions, such as maturity transformation, payments, capital raising, and remittances, as well as "back end" data systems and regulatory compliance.
The program aims to understand the major categories of FinTech innovation, the evolving business models and regulatory and legal structures that underlie these categories, and the opportunities and risks that emerging FinTech business models, including cryptocurrency and blockchain, pose for financial, legal and regulatory systems.
