Outline
This program covers a range of leadership and organizational behavior topics, divided into distinct modules:
- International Leadership
In the first module, we outline the basics of leadership and leadership development with an international mindset, exploring common traps & challenges, and opportunities of intercultural leadership.
- Navigating Culture
This second module covers several approaches to assessing and deciphering culture, the effects of culture and cultural differences on organizations, and the development of intercultural intelligence.
- Communicating Effectively
International leaders communicate their way through almost all they do. When they communicate with followers, peers, and partners from other cultures in an international setting, they frequently run into communication difficulties. We discuss ways to promote courteous, fruitful, and transparent dialogue to enhance group decision-making and collaboration. We will also look closely at how communication shapes a leader's identity and interactions with others. Alumni from Bocconi who have studied abroad for many years share with us their insights on intercultural communication and how to improve communication abilities.
- Motivating Followers
While there is no "magic bullet" for motivation that works consistently and universally, international leaders must recognize the diversity of people's needs and motives, cultural motivational foundations, and social mechanisms that determine motivation in teams in order to effectively inspire and channel the energy, talents, and commitment of their followers. We also discuss motivation theories and frameworks that can significantly improve international leaders' capacity to adapt their motivation efforts in intercultural contexts, both for individuals and for teams.
