Course Overview
Participants in the Comprehensive Foundations of Global Political Economy Course get a distinct viewpoint and an understanding of how political organizations and social concerns impact and are influenced by the global economy. Because it covers many of the same themes in a different way, this course is a perfect companion course for anyone studying international economics. This is a complimentary course, not a rival to international economics. It provides pupils with another perspective on studying the world economy.
Course Objectives
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Identify the role that the WTO, GATT, and IMF have in facilitating international trade
- Understand competing theories of international political economy
- Conceptualize the impact of a "strong" or "weak" currency on international trade
- Apply analytical tools to assess economic development and financial trends on a global scale.

The Comprehensive Foundations of Global Political Economy course covers the following core modules:
- Introduction to International Political Economy
Explore the history, scope, and significance of IPE, and understand the interaction between politics and economics on a global stage. - Theoretical Approaches to IPE
Study the different schools of thought, including liberalism, Marxism, and realism, and how they apply to international economic relations. - Global Trade and Institutions
Examine international trade dynamics, the role of major global institutions, and the regulation of trade policies. - Global Financial Markets and Crises
Analyze the functioning of international financial markets, capital flows, and the causes and effects of global financial crises. - Globalization and Economic Development
Discuss the economic, political, and social impacts of globalization, and explore the strategies for sustainable development in emerging economies.
