Course Overview
With the rapid advance of technology and the rise of big data, twentieth-century health issues have become globalised. That makes global health security an issue of vital importance everywhere. Global public health security has become a critical issue in today's interconnected world. In the Advanced Program in Global Public Health Security, you will trace the history of international health regulations, and the organisations that determine them. You will learn about disease control, international cooperation, public health infrastructure, and emergency preparedness and gain insights into how regulations are formulated.
Course Objectives
- Describe the history of international health regulations.
- Explore global health organizations, what they are for and what they are doing.
- Explain what PIP framework is, and how it contribute to global health.
- Summarise the Current Global health security threat, and how to face them.
- Explore the regulation and implementation of important areas of public health from the regulatory level.
- Explore legislative background, health law and its impact on policy implementation.

Module 2: Major Health Threats
- Infectious diseases and pandemics (COVID-19, Ebola, etc.)
- Bioterrorism and biological warfare
- Antimicrobial resistance and emerging threats
Module 3: International Health Regulations (IHR)
- Overview of IHR framework
- WHO and other global health organizations' roles
- Case studies on IHR in practice
Module 4: Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Building resilient health systems
- Early warning systems and surveillance
- Coordinated response strategies during a public health crisis
Module 5: Ethical and Policy Challenges
- Balancing individual rights with public health needs
- Policy-making in times of crisis
- Cross-border health security cooperation
