Course Overview:
In this newly announced "Training Course in Python for Geospatial Data Science" participants will learn how to integrate spatial data into your Python Data Science workflow. They will learn to interact with, manipulate and augment real-world data using their geographic dimension. Also, they will learn to read tabular spatial data in the most common formats (e.g. GeoJSON, shapefile, geopackage) and visualize them in maps. Participants will gain confidence in building data-driven geospatial models, interpreting geographic patterns, and creating interactive visualizations.
Course Objectives:
- Unleash the power of Locational analytics in Data science.
- Learn how to visualize Geospatial data in Python (static and interactive maps.
- Understand coordinate systems, projections, and how to transform spatial data effectively.
- Create and interpret geospatial visualizations to communicate findings.
- Apply geospatial data science skills in a range of industries, including urban development, environmental monitoring, and logistics.
Course Outline:
The course is structured into a series of comprehensive modules that build a strong foundation in geospatial data science:
- Module 1: Introduction to Python for Geospatial Data
- Overview of Python libraries for geospatial analysis (GeoPandas, Shapely, Pyproj)
- Installation and setup of necessary tools
- Module 2: Spatial Data Formats and Handling
- Understanding vector and raster data formats (Shapefiles, GeoJSON)
- Loading and manipulating spatial datasets
- Module 3: Geospatial Data Analysis with GeoPandas
- Geospatial data structures and operations
- Spatial joins and attribute queries
- Module 4: Coordinate Reference Systems and Projections
- Working with projections and transforming coordinate systems
- Module 5: Data Visualization with Python
- Creating geospatial visualizations using Matplotlib and Folium
- Building interactive maps
- Module 6: Advanced Geospatial Modeling
