Course Overview
The Certified Public Information Officer (CPIO) program is open to all public safety officials that gather, disseminate, and oversee public information for their department or organization. The curriculum addresses frequent difficulties confronting the public safety sector and the media, with a focus on providing PIOs with the "tools of the trade" for both routine operations and during community crises. This curriculum provides thorough training in media relations, crisis communication, and public information tactics.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the Certified Public Information Officer program, participants will be able to:

Course Content
The program includes the following modules:
- Module 1: Foundations of Public Communication
Covers the principles of public information, the role of a Public Information Officer (PIO), and key communication strategies. - Module 2: Media Relations and Press Management
Focuses on developing relationships with media professionals, preparing for interviews, and creating effective press releases. - Module 3: Crisis Communication
Teaches methods for managing communication during crises, including messaging strategies, stakeholder engagement, and information dissemination. - Module 4: Legal and Ethical Considerations in Public Communication
Examines regulations and ethical standards to ensure transparency and accountability in public communications. - Module 5: Community Engagement Strategies
